Last weekend at the box office was jam-packed, but this weekend the pickings are slim.
New in theaters today (9/2/11)
1. Apollo 18 (PG-13) Horror/Sci-Fi
Done in the style of “Blair Witch” and “Paranormal Activity”, featuring “decades-old found footage” from NASA’s abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition, reveals the reason the U.S. has never returned to the moon.
2. Shark Night 3D (PG-13) Horror/Thriller
Starring Sara Paxton, Katherine McPhee and Dustin Milligan
A weekend at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf turns into a nightmare for seven vacationers as they are subjected to fresh-water shark attacks.
*My initial thought is – after the first attack, WHY would anyone else get back in the water? I suppose for the same reason that campers still wandered off alone in the woods in ‘Friday the 13th’ movies, right?
New on DVD & BLU-RAY (8/30)
1. Disney’s Prom (PG) Comedy/Drama
Starring Aimee Teegarden and Thomas McDonell
A group of teenagers get ready for their prom night.
2. Madea’s Big Happy Family (PG-13) Comedy/Drama
Starring Tyler Perry, Loretta Devine and Cassi Davis
Madea jumps into action when her niece, Shirley, receives distressing news about her health.
If you haven’t been out to see “The Help” yet, why NOT? I can’t recommend it enough. I’ll get off your back if you’ve at least picked up a copy of the book.
