Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.” Since I like to live by that motto when I go shoe shopping for myself, it’s only fair to apply that same thought process when purchasing shoes for my kids. It’s back to school time, so I say, “Give a kid the right shoes, and he/she can conquer the school year.” Or at least some homework during the first few months! From hi-tops and glitter ballet flats, to athletic sneakers and slip loafers, the choices are endless for your child to walk into this school year with confidence and style.
I’ve rounded up some of my favorite shoe picks for boys and girls. They’re so cute you’re going to find yourself saying, “I wish those came in my size.” I know I did, especially with the glitter hi-tops.

Glitter Heart Ballet Flats
You can literally wear your heart on your shoes with this pair of pretty ballet flats. The rose gold is so hip, and the sparkle is sure to catch attention with each step.

Scribble Hi-Top Sneaker
Girls love to doodle on paper. Now, they can walk around with doodles on their feet. The trendy drawings (tic-tac-toe, hearts, stars, flowers, and so on) make the shoes a piece of art.

New Balance Shoe
The retro styling and durability of these kicks make them a great every day shoe. Kids can wear them in the classroom, gym, recess, and to the 30 after school activities that you are now regretting you signed them up for. This style comes in a variety of great colors.

Converse All-Star Street Mid Shoes
I’m convinced one can never go wrong with Converse. They are a classic that never seems to go out of style. And, there’s nothing cuter than tiny feet running around in these kicks.

Vans Sk8 Hi-Zip Shoe
Make a bright and bold statement with these hi-top zip shoes. Kids can wear them whether they visit the skate park or not. This style comes in a variety of colors, including light pink, metallic, white, black, tropical pattern, blue, and coral. Personally, I like the bright pink, and the metallic with perforated hearts.

Glitter Hi-Top Sneakers
Your little (and big) girls will shine with these hi-top sneakers. They are glamorous, and sporty at the same time which means they work just as well with jeans as they do with dresses.

Stride Rite Sage Boot
March into fall with these beautiful rider boots. They can be worn over leggings, or even with skirts. The quilted detailing, and buckles keep your young fashionista in style, while walking comfortably (and without a heel that will potentially break her ankle).
Available at: Stride Rite
Sperry Kids Deckfin Shoes
These Sperry shoes with laces are a sporty, on-trend style that will breath new life into jeans and khakis alike. They can be worn year-round with socks or no socks (I recommend socks for boys because of their smelly feet). The color goes with any outfit, too.
Available at: Zappos
Vans Hi-Top Shoes
These all-black hi-top Vans are almost too cool for school. They are sleek, and comfortable because of the extra ankle support. Additional colors are available if you want something louder, and not so monotone.

Toms Chambray Shoes
These chambray shoes go with just about everything. Toms are so comfortable, and these are trendy with colorful embroidery details. It's all about the details, right? This style can be easily slipped on and off for on-the-go fun.

Nike Portmore II Shoes
Just do it! That's what I say with these grey and white Nike lace-ups. They are a refined athletic shoe that will go great with a pair of jeans or work out shorts.

Sienna Bootie
These booties are a good transition into fall, and can be worn all winter. They can be worn with a skirt, dress, leggings or under pants, which means they are an all-around good purchase! They come in a pretty brown, as well.
