Christina Milian: A Letter to My Daughter

Christina Milian and daughter VioletMy Dear Beautiful Violet,

I love you with all my heart. You will always be my little princess. Here is a little note to you to help you go forward with your journey in life based on some lessons I've learned. Some of these were taught to me by my mom and some things I learned on my own . . .

I want you to know you are beautiful. Inside and out. Always remain humble and treat others the way you would like to be treated. Remember life is a blessing! So, remain positive and never let ANYONE put you down. I believe in you and I know you believe in yourself.

Any "setback" or disappointment is a lesson—never a mistake. So, pay attention and learn from every moment. Everything happens for a reason.

Fear less, as a matter of fact. Have no fear! Don't get me wrong, I don't want you jumping out of a plane . . . lol. But in your mind, don't let fear hold you back. Sometimes you have to face your fears to overcome them. It'll make you stronger and wiser. Being nervous is good!

Follow your gut feelings! I can tell you from experience that as women, we tend to be right.

Choose your men wisely. Don't let them alter you or turn you into something you're not. A good man should only enhance your life and make you smile! He should not take you away from your family and friends but be as warm and welcoming as you are. If you love him, I'll love him too. If he can't understand that … chances are, he's not the one. Believe me.

Follow your dreams. Be driven and find new ways to excite your imagination. You and I have huge imaginations! The second you feel lost there's an answer. Just pay attention to your surroundings. There's inspiration in everything around us, especially the simplest things—just look outside.

Never be afraid to talk to me about anything! I'm here … I am your mom but also your best friend no matter what. You have no idea how much you've been there for me even when you couldn't even speak. I will always try to understand, and I have more experience than you could ever imagine.

Smile. Say hello and be the difference in others lives. Every word you speak can be heard. And share your gift & blessings. Blessings are meant to be shared.

If your heart is ever be broken, don't worry, your world isn't over. It's okay to talk about it and to cry. Both are therapeutic and always remember that something/someone better is around the corner. Just be patient.

Listen and communicate. Don't be afraid to speak up, but also don't be afraid to just be quiet, listen, and interpret where someone is coming from. It'll help you avoid drama. Plus, the words "I'm sorry" go a long way. As much as we'd like to think it, we're not always right—and that's okay.

Well, once again, I love you and always will!

Love,
Mommy
