Elmo is joining the ranks of Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel by getting his own late-night talk show… except it won’t be on that late.
On May 27, “The Not Too Late Show with Elmo,” will launch on HBO’s new standalone streaming platform, HBO Max. And we couldn’t be more psyched about it.
“It’s called ‘The Not Too Late Show’ because Elmo’s bedtime is 7:30,” Elmo says in the trailer. And since it’s a streaming service, young viewers can watch it anytime. Over and over and over again.
Look, most of us have increased screen time for our kids because of the pandemic so a pre-bedtime talk show doesn’t sound like such a terrible idea. And it could be a nice break from some of the other super annoying kids’ shows out there.
The iconic red puppet’s show will feature real, human, celebrity guests like the Jonas Brothers, John Mulaney, and Jason Sudeikis, but also the regular cast of characters like Oscar the Grouch and the Cookie Monster. And Batman who falls somewhere in between.
Elmo’s latest gig is a part of a deal between HBO Max and Sesame Workshop and will also include five new seasons of “Sesame Street” and two new animated series, right off the heels of the children’s show’s 50th anniversary.
