We have a list of Christmas movies released (or to be released) in 2023 that will make you laugh (and sometimes cry). Take your pick from these new releases this holiday season to experience it all.
1. Candy Cane Lane – Prime Video
Starring Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross, the movie tells the story of a family man who can go to any extent to win the neighborhood’s annual Christmas decorating contest. To be the winner, the protagonist makes a pact with an elf to help him win.
However, here’s the twist: the elf casts a spell that brings the 12 days of Christmas to life but also brings unexpected chaos to town. Now, it is up to the main character to save the town and the holiday. The plot of “Candy Cane Lane” follows the protagonist’s quest to save both.
2. Genie – Peacock
This newly released Christmas movie is a must-watch for all Melissa McCarthy fans. After all, McCarthy stars as a magical genie in the film! The fairytale comedy begins when a genie, Flora (McCarthy), pops out of an antique jewelry box after being stuck there for over 2,000 years.
She grants unlimited wishes to the workaholic man, Bernard (Paapa Essiedu), and even helps him win his family back before Christmas.
3. The Naughty Nine – Disney+
Your kids will love this movie as it will show them the perks of being good children throughout the year. The story starts with fifth grader Andy, who finds himself without a present from Santa on Christmas morning. Realizing that he’s on Santa’s “naughty list,” he pulls together a team of eight other “naughty list” kids to execute a heist in Santa’s Village at the North Pole to get the presents they think they deserve.
4. Never Alone for Christmas – BET+
This hilarious and love-affirming holiday comedy tells the story of a couple who call off their wedding just before Christmas. However, by sheer coincidence, they both land on the same Cajun Christmas retreat…with someone new in their arms.
5. Family Switch – Netflix
Jennifer Garner is switching bodies again! However, this time, she is not alone. She and her on-screen husband, Ed Helms, swap their bodies with their teenage kids, played by Emma Myers and Brady Noon, during a rare planetary alignment.
The Walkers family must soon return to normal or be stuck in switched-up bodies forever. Will the family be able to do it? Watch this Christmas movie to find the answer.
6. EXmas – Prime Video
Seeing your ex at home during Christmas? It’s never a good idea. Even Graham (Robbie Amell) felt the same when he first saw his ex-fiancée Ali (Leighton Meester) at his parent’s home during his surprise visit.
The two exes soon wage war, hoping the family will kick out one before Christmas, declaring the other the winner. This romantic comedy might leave you in tears, so keep your tissue box handy.
Other than these newly released Christmas movies, you can even watch “Dashing Through the Snow” (Disney+) and “The Velveteen Rabbit” (Apple TV+) with your kids. So, which Christmas movie will you watch with your family this year? Do let us know in the comments section below.
