Cartoon Shows Kids Should Not Watch

Every parent wants their kid to be involved in other activities instead of watching cartoons. However, kids love them as they find cartoon shows fun and engaging. Often, it gets difficult to engage them in activities other than watching something on TV or iPad.

Just because kids watch animated shows doesn’t mean they impart the right values to them. There are plenty of cartoon shows that kids shouldn’t watch as they contain violence or show disobedience as normal. Here’s a list of shows you might want your kids to avoid or watch only when you are around.

1. Caillou

Canadian cartoon “Caillou” depicts behavior that may negatively affect kids. The cartoon portrays a little boy’s misadventures and interactions with his baby sister. The little one whines constantly and throws temper tantrums. However, his parents always let him get away with everything.

Initially, he is not nice to his baby sister, but by the end of the episode, he softens towards her. Although “Caillou” is supposed to teach kids to be nice to their siblings, his bratty behavior can end up teaching wrong things to kids, especially since he gets away with it.

2. The Ren & Stimpy Show

“The Ren & Stimpy Show” tells the story of Ren, a psychotic chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat, a dimwitted Manx cat named Stimpy, and their unusual adventures together. Although the cartoon aired on Nickelodeon, it wasn’t a kid’s cartoon due to the characterization, violence, and, at times, inappropriate acts.

Although everyone loves this Disney classic, it is not apt for younger kids, especially those still learning about emotions. The part where hunters kill Bambi’s mother and he is left an orphan might not go down well with little ones. They might be left traumatized watching a little fawn losing his mother in such a manner. Although the movie has its light moments, the cartoon show can leave kids sad, upset, and fearful of losing a loved one. It would be better to allow your kids to watch it when they are older.

4. Dragon Ball Z

This Japanese anime TV series follows the adventures of Goku, who, along with the Z Warriors, defends the Earth against evil. However, it is full of violence. The cartoon show generally conveys that when some characters die, they come back to life stronger to avenge the death of their enemies. It somewhat teaches kids about revenge and going to any extent to take vengeance, which may not be a good thing to learn for growing minds.

5. Shin-chan

No matter what your child’s age is, avoid this cartoon show if it’s still being aired in your country. Due to the scenes and antics of Shin-chan, this Japanese manga series has been banned in several countries. Although the cartoon depicts the antics of a five-year-old kid and his family, some of its content is vulgar and inappropriate. There is also foul language, which can hamper kids’ language learning.

Other cartoon shows like “The Looney Tunes Show,” “Steven Universe,” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” among others, should be avoided due to their violent or inappropriate content. Ensure kids watch cartoon shows that teach valuable lessons and improve their language skills.

Always watch the cartoons with your kids to understand the content, which will help you make a sound decision. Next time your kid watches a cartoon show on TV or iPad, make sure it’s age-appropriate and worth watching. Also, no matter how uninterested you are, sit through a few episodes occasionally to ensure your kiddo isn’t watching something inappropriate.
