Chris Rock once joked that couples just go to dinner, the movies, and then head home for some hanky panky. He’s right. When in a long-term relationship, the nights at the club are over. Whether you have kids or not, couples are no longer interested in chugging beer and staying up till 5 a.m.
There’s nothing wrong with that. We mature and enjoy the simpler things in life, like a fulfilling meal and an entertaining flick. Thing is not all movies are of interest to your man, and vice versa. So, what movies are created equal? I’ll tell ya. There are some great flicks currently in theaters (and soon to be released) that will entertain you and your beau. Here are five date night movies that are a must see.
1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Tobey Maguire is out, but Andrew Garfield does a spectacular job as Spidey. I recently watched The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with my boo. Yes, I am dating someone new! He’s amazing and so was this Marvel Comics flick. I hadn’t seen the first part (The Amazing Spider-Man) yet I understood the plot. And it was quite a story! There is romance for you and spectacular special effects and action for him. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat, especially due to Jamie Foxx’s (Electro) stellar performance. You may even shed a tear or two. I did.
2. Neighbors
Neighbors is a just-released comedy starring Zac Efron (you’re welcome) and Seth Rogen. This duo will tickle your man’s funny bone while giving you some serious eye candy. Plus, Rogen is one of the few comedians that can make me laugh as his humor is less frat (I’m looking at you, Vince Vaughn!) and more wit. It’s a win, win!
3. Disney’s Maleficent
Before your man knocks a Disney flick, tell him to hear me out. I saw the trailer for Maleficent and Angelina Jolie is scary and wicked and all things exciting. And the special effects are legendary. Trees come to life and a war is fought in a magical land. This movie looks like it will be spectacular. I guarantee that your man will be entertained with sword fights and the like, while you’re enchanted with this classic fairy tale (set to be released May 30).
4. The Quiet Ones
I am not a fan of scary movies, so I won’t be watching The Quiet Ones. If you want to grip your man’s arm while screaming for mercy, I say give it a go! In theaters as of April 28, The Quiet Ones has made over 9 million dollars in the US alone. Why all the hype? Imagine a movie where an experiment is conducted on a young woman and everything goes awry. Terrifying! Grab your man and get your lungs ready.
5. 22 Jump Street
Channing Tatum is one of those non-threatening guys that other guys actually like. Sure, he’s hot. And those abs! But his personality on-screen and off wins over women and men. Team him up with Jonah Hill in a comedy where two cops are undercover on a college campus and hilarity ensues. Check out this flick on June 13. Your man will love it, and you’ll fall in love again…with Channing Tatum.
