4 Outdoor Family Activities

In search of fun outdoor activtities that can involve the whole family adn get everyone excited? Here are four awesome activities the whole family will enjoy.

1. Bike Ride

Why not go for a family bike ride? You could even combine it with a picnic, (check out our tips for planning a picnic) and make a day of it. Be sure to take into account the age of your children when planning how far, and where to ride. Remember this is fun, not punishment. Most cities have bike rental shops where you can rent bikes, if you don’t have your own, they even include helmets with the rental. Not only is this a fun activity for the family it gets you moving too.

2. Scavenger Hunt

Create a scavenger hunt and foster a little good-natured family rivalry. You can split the family into teams and head off with digital cameras to find objects or places in the neighborhood. Have each team take a picture of the object and who ever gets back first with all the pictures gets to pick what’s for dinner. Oh, and the losing team has to make it. 3. Obstacle Course

Set up an obstacle course in your back yard or driveway. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want. If you are setting one up in your driveway, use sidewalk chalk to draw the path, at various intervals draw an action (or write an action) that you want the person to do such as 10 jumping jacks or a 360 degree turn. Then you can see who can go through the quickest. If you are setting one up in your back yard you can use chairs or other objects to create a zigzag course. For the drawings maybe just draw them on a piece of paper and weight them down with a rock.

4. Hotter Colder mashed with 20 questions

Pick an object like a ball or a watering can and take turns hiding it in the back yard or around the front of the house. Then everyone else has to guess where you hid it. They can ask you yes or no questions (but they aren’t allowed to ask if the object is hidden in a certain place), the questions must be things such as “will the object get wet?” or “Is the object in the sun”. This game can be really fun and gets kids thinking creatively.
