If you are a makeup lover, your drawer must be filled with various eyeshadow pallets, lip shades, etc. While some products might be your all-time favorite, others might be left unused due to the wrong shade or texture. However, throwing them away is not an option due to its price tag. If that’s the case, here are some tips for reusing old makeup products that are about to expire or that you no longer use. You can easily use your not-so-good cosmetic products in various ways, from arts and crafts to cuticle cream.
Toners
While toner falls under the skincare category, it is an essential part of your makeup routine and has a tendency to expire quickly due to its high water content. If you have old or expired skin toners, do not use them on your skin. Expired toners can cause irritation, rashes, and so on. Instead of tossing them away, reuse your old makeup product to clean around the house. Some toners contain a high amount of alcohol that can be used to clean mobile screens, windows, and glasses.
Lip balm
Your unused lip balm can be reused for various purposes. For instance, you can reuse it to keep your feet blister-free. Lip balms also work fabulously as cuticle creams. If the product has expired, you can use it to fix your stuck zipper or shine your shoes. However, ensure you use a clear lip balm because nobody wants their zippers or shoes tinted pink.
Lipstick
We all have picked the wrong lip shades every once in a while. However, instead of getting disheartened, reuse them to create a new shade altogether. Simply scoop out any leftovers from an almost empty lipstick, place them in a microwave-safe container, microwave the cosmetic product for five seconds, and then mix with the shade that isn’t to your liking to create a new lip shade that suits your skin tone. Alternatively, you can add petroleum jelly to give it a glossy texture and use it as a lip gloss.
For the expired lip product, you can create some art pieces with your kids. However, ensure your children don’t use them on their skin or put them in their mouths. It might cause a reaction and call for a trip to the ER. Hence, it is always better to hand these products to older kids for their art projects or to let younger ones use them under adult supervision only. Similarly, you can use lip liners, nail paints, and eyeliner pencils for artwork.
Eye shadow
Eye shadow is a makeup product that can be reused in several ways. For instance, mix a few drops of coconut oil into your old eye shadow palette and let your kids use it for painting. You can even crush the eye shadow cakes and combine them with clear nail polish to create some fun, new nail polish colors.
Alternatively, you can mix the crushed eye shadow (old, not expired) with clear glue or white paint to create fun, shimmery colors for your kid’s playtime.
Mascara
It would be best not to use expired mascara around your eyes, as it can cause infection and irritation. Instead, clean the wand with soap and use it for other purposes. You can tame your frizzy hair, brush your eyebrows, de-clump mascara on your lashes, cover grey hair, exfoliate your lips, or simply clean those pesky corners in the kitchen.
So, mamas, take out all your cosmetic products and sort them into different piles. Separate your favorite, old, about-to-expire, and expired products. Once sorted, reuse them in the ways mentioned above to feel less guilty about the old or expired makeup products.
