It’s a little different from the trackers made for use by adults. KidFit tracks sleep, but not steps or calories. The device sets a daily goal for children: to earn 100 points which they can rack up by being active. Parents can also use the customization feature to set a goal for the child. The device features an app that shares words of encouragement, urging kids on toward their goal — and when they reach it, they get a verbal high-five with a congratulatory message. It will retail for $49.99; come in black, yellow, aqua, and hot pink; and will hit stores in mid-August (you can also pre-order it).
Another company getting into the mix is Leap Frog. Their LeapBand activity tracker for kids 4 to 7 years old tracks activity and issues challenges in Leap Frog fashion — “wiggle like a worm.” The child’s activity is rewarded with points. Leap Frog announced that its product will be available later this year and retails for $39.99.
