Reality starlet Kim Kardashian took to her blog to lash out at “Teen Mom” for glorifying teen pregnancy.
The “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” star shared: “While I was at ‘The Today Show’ this morning I saw a story about a Memphis high school where 90 young female students were either pregnant or have given birth this year…. It seems that shows like ‘Teen Mom’ are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls. The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have become almost like celebrities, but girls, these are not people you should idolize.”
“When I think back to when I was 16, there is no way I would even have considered having a baby. Having a baby is one of the biggest, and most life-changing decisions a person can make and while I’m not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, having a baby so young shouldn’t be seen as the trendy thing to do.”
Her parting words of advice to her fans/followers: “Girls, please, think very carefully before you make these kind of decisions,” she continued on her blog. “Talk to your family, friends, teachers, and most of all, be careful.”
It’s a good message to send out to her young fans, but I recently read a report that teen pregnancy rates have actually dropped since MTV first aired the “16 and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom” shows. I do find it disturbing that the paparazzi now chase after these teen “celebrities” to get their photos and write crazy tabloid stories about them – they don’t have the “teams” and PR people to handle this kind of attention the way movie stars and other celebrities do.
Do you watch these shows? Do your teenagers watch?
