Weekend Movie Release Roundup: Theatrical & DVD 1/21

Looking for a little entertainment this weekend? A roundup of the newest flicks in theaters and on DVD.

Theatrical Releases 1/21/11

1. No Strings Attached (R)

Starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman

“A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it’s not long before they learn that they want something more.”

2. The Company Men (R)

Starring Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper, Kevin Costner, and Tommy Lee Jones

“The story centers on a year in the life of three men trying to survive a round of corporate downsizing at a major company – and how that affects them, their families, and their communities.”

3. The Way Back (limited release) (PG-13)

Starring Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, Saoirse Ronan, and Colin Farrell

“Siberian gulag escapees walk 4000 miles overland to freedom in India.”

New on DVD and BLU-RAY this week (1/18/11):

1. Buried (R)

Starring Ryan Reynolds

“Paul is a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.”

* I LOVE Ryan Reynolds, but just watching the trailer for this one made me feel claustrophobic – from what I’ve read the entire film is Ryan in the coffin. I might cave and give it a try this week, though.

2. Takers (PG-13)

Starring Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon, Chris Brown, Idris Elba

“A group of bank robbers find their multi-million dollar plan interrupted by a hard-boiled detective.”

3. Stone (R)

Starring Edward Norton, Milla Jovovich, and Robert De Niro

“A convicted arsonist looks to manipulate a parole officer into a plan to secure his parole by placing his beautiful wife in the lawman’s path. “

Have you seen anything good (or not so good) this week?  We’re in the middle of another Harry Potter movie marathon, so I haven’t watched any new movies this week – which is not the norm for me.  In my defense, it’s been bitterly cold here, so the thought of coming out of the theater to a frozen car in -10* weather and driving home with an ice cream headache because the heater is still blowing cold air – hasn’t sounded like too much fun!
