Looking for a little entertainment this weekend? A roundup of the newest flicks in theaters and on DVD.
Theatrical Releases 2/4/11
1. The Roommate (PG-13)
Starring Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, and Aly Michalka
“College student Sara finds her safety jeopardized after she’s assigned to a dorm room with a new roommate, Rebecca.”
If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can catch it here. It gave me a vibe of “Single White Female” – super creepy.
2. Sanctum (R)
Starring Rhys Wakefield, Allison Cratchley, and Christopher Baker
Based on a true story. “An underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world.”
New on DVD and BLU-RAY this week (2/1/11)
1. Never Let Me Go (R)
Starring: Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, and Andrew Garfield
“As children, Ruth, Kathy and Tommy, spend their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.”
2. Conviction (R)
Starring Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell, and Melissa Leo
Based on a true story. “A working mother puts herself through law school in an effort to represent her brother, who has been wrongfully convicted of murder and has exhausted his chances to appeal his conviction through public defenders.”
3. Let Me In (R)
Starring Chloe Moretz, Richard Jenkins, and Kodi Smit-McPhee
“A bullied young boy befriends a young female vampire who lives in secrecy with her guardian.”
The Super Bowl will most likely affect this weekend’s box office numbers. Are there businesses in your area that shut down during the big game? We’re not “football people”, so I was really looking forward to going to the movie theater on Sunday since it will be practically a ghost town around here, but I just discovered they’re closing up after the early matinees. So much for THAT grand plan of having the theater all to myself. Well, I still could if I want to hang out in the parking lot, I guess. Haha.
