Emily Deschanel shares her pregnancy cravings and what she’s looking forward to the most about motherhood.
The ‘Bones’ actress and her husband David Hornsby are expecting their first child this fall and she sat down with the October issue of Fit Pregnancy to chat about her pregnancy and what her hopes are after baby arrives.
On the magic of being pregnant:
“I really like being pregnant. Not that there aren’t things I don’t love, but when I think about what my body is doing — creating a child — it just blows my mind. I’m in awe of the process and science. And seeing my belly move is pretty amazing: it’s like in the movie Alien.”
On her prenatal exercise routine:
“I’m still Spinning and doing yoga—right now it’s a prenatal yoga DVD I do at home—but I really love classes. I like the music and the motivation you get from the people in class with you. And I’m walking a lot these days.”
On her pregnancy cravings:
“Lemonade! I want it all the time. That and grapefruit. Those cravings I indulge. But I also crave chocolate all the time, and I try to ignore that.”
On her plans post-baby:
“I’m a total hippie, so we will co-sleep and breastfeed. My mom breastfed me for more than a year and I can’t imagine doing it any other way. It’s cheap and much better for the environment … I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but I’m determined, even if it’s hard at first.”
On what she’s looking forward to the most about parenthood:
Besides meeting the baby of course, I look forward to that bond, the love that people say is stronger than you can imagine. Also, I think getting to see everything fresh, through a child’s eyes, is a wonderful thing.”
