Cinco de Mayo Sangria

The perfect way to keep the wine and create a cocktail!

I always try and keep wines under $10 for Sangria recipes since it will be mixed with other ingredients, focusing on the overall taste. I used a Spanish Tempranillo Red Wine and a Spanish White Wine made from Viura grapes, both from Trader Joe’s to make the below sangria recipes.

Raspberry Plum Sangria

  • 1 bottle of Spanish red wine
  • ½ cup pomegranate juice
  • ½ cup cup triple sec
  • 10 lemon slices, halved (about 2 lemons)
  • 6 slices orange, halved (1 large navel orange)
  • 1 plum, sliced
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • Sparkling water topper

Combine all ingredients, except sparkling water, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before serving.

Strawberry Peach Sangria

  • 1 bottle of Spanish white wine
  • ½ cup orange/mango juice
  • ½ cup peach schnapps
  • 1 cup frozen peaches
  • 6 orange slices, halved (1 large navel orange)
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced
  • Sparkling water topper

Combine all ingredients, except sparkling water, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before serving.

Tips for making homemade sangria:

  • Use seasonal fruit.
  • Inexpensive wine is fine and the way to go!
  • Sangria can be made with red or white wine.
  • Let sangria sit in fridge for at least 3 hours.
  • Use different types of carbonated soda water to fit your taste.
  • Freeze all types of fruits for fun edibles!
