There have been many times when I’ve been at the drugstore and stood in front of a skincare aisle stumped as to which skin products would work on me…I had that same experience as I shopped for my baby’s skin products. I was on a mission to purchase items that contained no (or few) fragrances, alcohols, or other ingredients that could be harmful or irritating to my baby’s skin.
So before hitting up my local Buy Buy Baby, I researched the products I needed to have in time for my little buddy’s arrival–the essentials! This short list was key for me and I hope it will be for you, too.

Bath Soap for Sensitive Skin
Both of my sons had dry, flaky skin as infants so I didn't bathe them every day, per my pediatrician's recommendation. When I did bathe them, I used a “hypoallergenic” wash that didn’t lather too much and smelled nice--without irritating my baby’s skin.
My pick: Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo, $7.79

Fragrance-Free Moisturizer
Fragrance-free moisturizer. To keep my baby's piel moisturized, I chose a lotion with Aloe Vera and Shea Butter in it, which instantly makes the skin incredibly soft and smooth.
My pick: Baby Bee Nourishing Lotion (Fragrance Free), $8

Healing Ointment
I skipped the traditional diaper creams and pastes and chose a multipurpose ointment. This one helps prevent diaper rash and also soothes dry, flaky skin on any part of the baby’s body.
My pick: Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment, $6.99

Cradle Cap-Busting Hair Wash
Cradle cap can be really stubborn to get rid of on a baby's scalp, so I picked a hair wash with exfoliating ingredients in it, like salicylic acid, to help soften and remove the thick flakes.
My pick: Mustela Foam Shampoo For Newborns, $11

Baby Sunscreen
Once my baby was six months old (sunscreen isn’t recommended for babies any younger), I purchased a physical sunscreen with filters like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which, unlike chemical sunscreens, won’t irritate baby’s skin and eyes.
My pick: Safe Harbor Baby and Kids SPF 50, $9.99
