These banners are so festive…and so easy to make! I love using alphabet stickers to make my own party banner. This way I can make any phrase/name I want to use without being locked into the standard (and often boring phrases) found at the party store.
More importantly, my daughter’s name is Kalia, I LOVE her name, but I cannot find anything personalized for her. These DIY sticker banners are perfect for Kalia (and for all underrepresented names!).
Supplies:
- Cardstock Paper
- Alphabet Stickers
- Scissors
- Hole Puncher
- Foil Fringe Curtain (my secret for easy tassel making!) (I only have a couple strands pictured – the curtain is huge, so I could not get the entire thing in a photo)
Instructions:
To create the banners
Step 1: First, we will create the banners. Cut your banner shape out of the cardstock paper (alternatively, you can can purchase plain banners to decorate).
Step 2: Punch two holes on top of each banner piece. (You can place them on top of each other and punch holes. I was able to do 3 sheets at a time.)
Step 3: Put a sticker on it and spell out your phrase or name! Take one long mylar strand from the fringe curtain and thread it into the holes. Do this AFTER the tassels are completed.
To make the tassels
Step 4: You can find the gold fringe curtain at any party store or on Amazon. They come in a variety of colors and run about $5. This is well worth it to avoid cutting and making your own tassels!
Step 5: Cut off multiple 12 inch strands from the curtain. The more strands you cut off, the fuller your tassel. In the first photo below I used only 4 strands, to show the step clearer (but you should use as many as you desire to create a fuller look):
Step 6: Fold the multiple twelve strands in half, leaving a loop on top and twist to tighten the middle portion. Lay one strand of mylar down, place tassel in middle and tie, leaving loop exposed to hang on your banner.
I spelled out both HOORAY and CHEERS! One of Kalia’s favorite songs is “If You’re Happy and You Know it (Shout HOORAY!).” Then I spelled out CHEERS, because I like a cocktail here and there, particularly after hearing “If You’re Happy and You Know it” 56 times in one day.
Cheers!
