We don’t need to tell anyone how not easy dating is these days – it’s painfully obvious to all of us, and doing so as a newly single parent certainly doesn’t make it easier. But, we all deserve love and happiness. With that in mind we turned to Bonnie Winston, celebrity matchmaker and relationship expert, to get her tips for dating as a newly single parent.
Bottom line: be proactive!
DEDICATE FIVE HOURS A WEEK ON LINE TO GETTING A QUALITY DATE
“It’s a number’s game, so devote exactly one hour a day dedicated to looking at people that pique your interest.”
DEDICATE FIVE HOURS A WEEK TO MEETING SINGLE PARENTS IN PERSON
“There are over 850 single parents groups worldwide on meetup.com. Choose a few near you that interest you by a hobby you enjoy or choose by location. Even if there isn’t a big turnout it just takes one person to click with.”
BE HONEST, LET YOUR CHILDREN KNOW YOU ARE DATING BUT LET THEM KNOW THEY WILL NOT BE REPLACED
“And let the people you meet know that you and your children come as a package.”
REMEMBER LIFE AND LOVE IS NOT A FAIRYTALE LIKE SNOW WHITE (MORE LIKE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST!)
“You shouldn’t bend your ethics and disregard things that are important to you, but no one is perfect. Remember every rose has a thorn as well.”
THE WALLS YOU PUT UP TO PROTECT YOU FROM HURT AND PAIN, ALSO BLOCK THE SUN
“Be open, and be fun and explore, it’s only a date! Also, be sure and go on lots on dates, try to give people a second chance. When you meet someone for drinks or dinner, try to pick a place that you will enjoy going to…just in case your date doesn’t show.”
