As per Buckingham Palace’s announcement, King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and is already receiving treatment for it. Due to the ongoing treatment, he can’t undertake any public duties in the immediate future. The announcement didn’t disclose the type of cancer the monarch has but did assure that it wasn’t prostate cancer (via The Guardian).
King Charles had been receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate, and the cancer was discovered while he was undergoing the same at the London Clinic. Moreover, the announcement exclaims that the monarch and his doctors remain “wholly positive about his treatment.” He began his regular outpatient treatments on Feb. 5, 2024.
He spent three nights at the clinic in January 2024 for a corrective procedure for his benign enlarged prostate. It was during this that his cancer was detected and diagnosed. King Charles personally informed his family members about his medical condition. Although he can’t undertake any public duties, he will continue serving as the head of state, fulfilling his constitutional role, including paperwork and private meetings (via BBC).
With the monarch making headlines, many are curious about his family. King Charles was wedded to the late Princess Diana from 1981 to 1996 and shared two sons with her. He is currently married to Queen Camilla, with the couple having tied the knot in 2005.
