Catherine O’Hara was recently announced as a part of the cast list for “The Last of Us” Season 2. In a recent interview, she recalled being heavily chastised by an 8-year-old in a mall. The reason was her leaving Kevin behind not once, but twice, in the “Home Alone” franchise (via TODAY).
The actress is one of the most memorable moms in the history of cinema. People to date rewatch “Home Alone” during the holiday season, and it is hard to forget Catherine O’Hara’s Kate McCallister suddenly remembering they left behind Kevin at home.
On Feb. 11, 2024, during the “Sunday Sitdown” episode, Catherine O’Hara told Willie Geist that an 8-year-old approached her in a mall. The following conversation was hilarious as the kid questioned whether she was Kevin’s mom. She replied in the affirmative, clarifying that she played his mother’s role in the movie.
The child went on to ask why she would leave him, to which she could only reply that she was sorry, but it was a part of the script. The little one finally questioned, “Isn’t that called abandonment?” To which Catherine O’Hara replied, “Yes, I’m sorry” (via TODAY).
Catherine O’Hara has a close relationship with her on-screen son, Macaulay Culkin
While O’Hara played Macaulay Culkin’s mom quite a while back, they continued staying in touch. She was present at his recent Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, having been personally asked by Culkin to present his award (via Entertainment Weekly).
The veteran actress recalled in the same interview on Sunday that her first reaction to Macaulay Culkin making this request of her was “Awww.” She found it extremely sweet of him to ask her to give him the award and thought his fiancée and kids were lovely.
During the ceremony, the Canadian-American actress called herself the “fake mom that left you home alone not once but twice” (via US Weekly). There was also a little mix-up at the Hollywood Walk of Fame photo session, where she was mistaken as Culkin’s mom.
