The company has received two reports of infants becoming trapped between the mattress and the end of the crib, although both children were removed safely from the gap and not injured.
The recall involves IKEA VYSSA style crib mattresses with these model names: VACKERT, VINKA, SPELEVINK, SLOA, and SLUMMER. These mattresses were manufactured on or before May 4, 2014 (look for the manufacturer label attached to the mattress cover for manufacture date and model name). A gap larger than two fingers width between the mattress and crib end is an indication of a defective mattress. If this gap exists, stop using the mattress immediately and return it to any IKEA store for an exchange or a full refund.
The effected crib mattresses were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and on IKEA’s website.
About 169,000 units were sold from August 2010 to May 2014, at a retail price of about $100. Proof of purchase is not required to receive an exchange or a full refund for the return.
