We are sure you must have a basket or two of stuffed toys piled in the corner of one of your storage closets. This is all thanks to your children, who have outgrown the stuffed toy phase or now play with only a few of their favorite ones. You will be happy to know you can free up precious closet space by repurposing your kid’s old stuffed toys. You can reuse those fluffy characters or creatures in many ways.
Repurpose your kid’s old stuffed toy for bags
Soft, fluffy shoulder bags and sling bags with cute characters are highly trending right now. So, if your little one has been asking for one, find a big or small soft toy and turn it into a bag. Remove all the stuffing from the toy, sew the zipper shut, attach a shoulder strap or chic chain, and voila, a cute bag is ready for your kids to carry around. This is also an excellent budget-friendly gifting idea for your friends and family.
Use them to stuff your cushions
Is your cushion getting flat or no longer as fluffy as you would like? Before you go to a store to grab some filling for your beanbag, pouf, or cushions, consider repurposing the stuffing of your kid’s old stuffed toys. They will serve the purpose well without spending any extra money. If you are too lazy to remove the stuffing, fill the cushion or poufs with the stuffed toys instead. They will work just as well, but you will need to shape the existing stuffing around them so the toy’s shape will not be bothersome when somebody sits on the cushion or pouf.
Make stuffed toys part of your decoration
If your kid is having a jungle-themed birthday party, there is no better way to repurpose their old stuffed toys than for party decorations. Make them part of the decor by attaching them with Velcro on the curtains, trees, windows, and so on. If you want to go all out, attach animal or bird sound chips to give your kids the experience of a mini jungle. Alternatively, you can make them a part of your kid’s room decor.
Turn them into door guard
Protect your walls and doors with stuffed toys. It is one of the best ideas to repurpose their fluffy friends and save money simultaneously. Get a big stuffed toy, remove all the filling, and then fill it with sand, rice, or any heavy material. Sew it up, and now place the door guard at the bottom of the door you want to block. If this seems like too much work, attach the small stuffed animals to the door handle to protect the wall.
Reuse your kid’s old stuffed toys for other items
Old stuffed toys can also be used to make keychains, slippers, lampshades, decorative photo frames, or dog toys. Pet toys are a great way to reuse your child’s soft toys, but do make sure to keep an eye on your companion animal so they don’t swallow the stuffing. To make slippers and lampshades, remove the stuffing first so you can easily work with the toy.
If you can’t work on these, wash your kid’s old stuffed toys and give them to your friends’ children, nieces and nephews, or new moms. It is one of the easiest ways to reuse old stuffed toys, and most wouldn’t mind a hand-me-down. Otherwise, donate them or give them away for recycling.
