Calzone recipes are always easy to make, and what’s not to love about pizza dough that’s filled with delicious things and folded over and baked? It’s basically a customizable pizza pocket. I like to stuff my calzones with Italian sausage, marinara sauce and mozzarella. But when I’m feeling really creative I like to try different fillings like Buffalo chicken or mushrooms and ricotta.
If you prefer to make your own dough, then go for it! If not, just buy pre-made pizza dough or even biscuits. It’s totally up to you how much time you want to spend prepping and your personal preferences about fillings. The same goes for the sauces that fill the calzones…you can go the homemade route or just buy a jar of your favorite sauce.
