One of my favorite memories of summer, besides the way it seemed to stretch on endlessly: days spent at the beach. My mom would pack us up and off we would go to frolic in the waves and build sand castles till late afternoon. In honor of epic beach days, and my always stylish mom, I pulled together the top items for sand and surf.
Heading to the beach, or pool for that matter calls for a cute, as well as functional bathing suit. I would love to say I run around in a string bikini but sometimes it's just not practical. Try a bikini to soak up the rays or a Tankini for coverage, it's nice to have options. ($12.97-16.97)
2. Coppertone Waterbabies SPF 50 & Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream Protection
If you are going to spend the day in the sun skin protection is key, for you as well as the kiddos. Besides, what would childhood be without memories of sunscreen being slathered all over us. I personally use a less expensive sunscreen for the body and pay up for a higher end for my face. ($8.99 & $30)
3. Joie A La Plage Gibson B Tunic
Tunics continue their reign as a top summer trend. I love them for the ease of dressing them up or down. Throw one on over your suit when you are starting to get pink, add a pair of shorts or capris in the evening for a casual beach bbq.
Just wearing sunscreen alone doesn't always cut it these days but why not stay stylish while hiding that ivory skin? Try a starlet size straw hat (don't forget the oversized sunglasses too) and have everyone on the beach wondering what your next flick will be.($19.50)
Now usually I am a huge proponant of a zippered bag, especially for the beach but this one just caught my eye. So summery it has room for sunscreen, a book, drinks and a few sand toys as well. Plus, it's washable. ($88)
No day at the beach is complete without a sand castle, and really how are you going to build it without the requisite toys. But, why buy just any toys when there are so many cute and imaginative ones out there. ($9.99-14.99)
